Ballet Class

What is ballet
dancing?

Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres and cultures.

Here is what’s required in your ballet class.

Leotard.

Solid color leotard, black is preferred for older dancers.

Tights.

Pink ballet tights.

Shoes.

Pink ballet shoes either canvas or leather. Full sole for young students and split sole for older students.

Pointe shoes or demi pointes, after your teachers approval.

Satin slippers (that resemble technique shoes) are not allowed, for safety reasons.

Warm ups.

Dance sweaters and leg warmers are allowed at the discretion of your instructor, but should always be removed after barre.

Ballet skirts are ok to wear during class.

Hair.

Hair pulled back in a bun (ponytail) with all hair pinned out of face. Bun is always required for dancers intermediate level and above.

No jewelry except very small earrings.

It helps to be a dancer when you look like a dancer. We ask parents to help your dancers understand and follow this policy. By signing the policy/release form, you are agreeing to adhere to your classes dress code.

Come prepared. We will enforce the dress code. Pack your dance bag the night before and always come prepared. Big chunky shoes, boots and other street shoes and/or jeans are not dance attire and are not acceptable.

If you do not wear the proper dance clothes, we reserve the right to ask you to leave class. We need to be able to see your body in motion and you need to be able to move freely and safely.
